An ‘arrogant’ doctor who fled to America after administering a fatal injection of adrenaline to a patient with an infected bunion was convicted today of manslaughter. Priya Ramnath, a mother-of-two, ignored the advice of three colleagues who warned against giving Patricia Leighton the injection. A court heard Mrs Leighton, 51, jerked forward in her bed within moments of the jab being administered and shouted: ‘What’s happening to me? I am going to die’. She then lost consciousness and died of heart failure shortly after the incident in 1998. Ramnath, 40, fled to Texas within days of Mrs Leighton’s death and had been working there as an anaesthetist until she returned to Britain 12 months ago under the threat of extradition. Today, a jury at Birmingham Crown Court found the 40-year-old doctor guilty of manslaughter by a majority of 10-2 at the end of a four-week trial . She was given a six-month jail sentence, suspended for two years.

Prosecutor Michael Burrows QC told the trial that Mrs Leighton was being treated in an intensive therapy unit when she died in the early hours of July 22 1998. Jurors were told that Mrs Leighton, a mother-of-two from Burntwood, Staffordshire, suffered from arthritis and had been admitted to hospital in Cannock on July 20 after a wound on a bunion on her left foot became infected.
She suffered side-effects from antibiotics and was transferred to Stafford District General, where she was admitted to intensive care with septic shock.While in the intensive care unit Mrs Leighton’s blood pressure plummeted and Ramnath, the senior house officer, made the split second decision to administer adrenalin.

Patricia Leighton died after being given an injection of adrenalineShe gave the injection despite the protests of two other doctors and an experienced ward sister, as well as the consultant anaesthetist. Ramnath was arrested in November 2007 after a new extradition treaty between the United States and the United Kingdom was introduced. She was on the brink of being extradited when she flew home voluntarily in February last year and was arrested by UK police at Gatwick airport. Sentencing her today, Mrs Justice Rafferty said that Ramnath had panicked in the ‘pressure cooker’ atmosphere of the hospital’s intensive therapy suit, but said that the interests of justice did not require her to take away the doctor’s liberty.

The judge said the hospital registrar’s defining error was that she had chosen not to listen to a sister working alongside her.’Arrogance has cost you your reputation,’ the judge added. The court heard that Mrs Leighton’s ill health meant there was only a ’slim chance’ she would have recovered if she had not had the injection, but that she may have lived for a further few days.

Mrs Leighton’s husband, Brian, 66, and daughters Debbie Leighton-Newton and Nicky Fellows, were in court throughout the trial.
In a joint statement issued following the verdict, they said the case marked the end of a ten-year ‘fight for justice’. They said: ‘We are happy that the jury have returned a guilty verdict and that justice has at last been served, and hope that she will never be able to wreck another family’s life.’Ramnath’s conviction comes a decade after the initial inquest into the patient’s death, which found that she died of natural causes.A second inquest, held in August 2004, resulted in a verdict of unlawful killing and the Crown Prosecution Service sought Ramnath’s extradition.

 Cristiano Ronaldo was lucky to be alive as he walked away from a devastating car crash that left his Ferrari totally smashed. It was around 10.20am his car crashed in the tunnel, which takes traffic under the airport runways between Wilmslow and Hale in Cheshire.

                            Manchester united spokesperson said, “he was involved in an incident this morning. No other car was involved and he is fine , back to training. Seeing the condition of the Ferrari and how it was smashed ,it must been a very high speed crash as the front part of the red Ferrari is completely broken and smashed .

  People who witnessed this horrible accident say the car smashed head on to the wall, and the Ferrari was in a really bad shape also said he was in a complete state of shock as he walked away from the car. The Ferrari car estimated price is whooping $300,000 dollars but considering Ronaldo’s current form and popularity it wont be long until he finds another Ferrari.

I used to wonder why all of us look different from one another? Why is that i don’t look like my younger sister or elder brother? There is an important underlying reason for all these variations. It is because of DNAs(Deoxy riboNucleic Acid). DNAs are nucleic acids that contain genetic instruction which is passed on from generation to generation. DNA is used to store large amounts of information. 

                                               DNA is made of two long polymers made of repeated units called nucleotides. The nuceotides are made of phosphates and sugar. These two polymers strands run in opposite direction and are entwined with each other forming a double helix. The sugar is attached to one of the four bases presentnamely- adenine(A), guanine(G), cytosine(C) & thymine(T). Each type of base on one strand forms a bond with just one type of base on the other strand i.e. A bonding only to T, and C bonding only to G. The main function of a DNA in living organisms is to duplicate itself. A sequence of several DNAs form genes which is the main reason for the physical characteristics of a living being. DNA might sometimes ungergo sudden changes called mutations. This is the reason for different features. Also, it depends on where the genes are placed on the chromosomes. 

                                                      I didn’t know my question had such complicated solutions. Well i got to know about this now and my confusion ends.

Few customs that were followed by people in the olden days across the country are so evil and harsh. One such custom that got my attention towards it was SATI. Sati was a custom in which the wives would be burnt alive after their husband’s death. This makes me wonder why people were so heartless.

                            Basically, this act was practised by the wives voluntarily to end their life after their husband dies. But, there are incidents where the wives were forcefully dragged to the pyre and burnt, in order to maintain the custom. Most of them think sati was followed in India alone but the truth is that it also prevailed among Egyptians, Greek, Goths, Scythians and others. This seems to be really shocking. 

                              Finally, The British, due to the efforts of Hindu reformers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy outlawed this custom in 1829. Though this custom is supposed to be outlawed, there are few rare incidents still happening in the country of India. Hope all of this comes to an end…

Carlos tevez the awesome striker from Argentina, current striker for man united has issued a warning declaring that he will leave if the on going contract negotiations are not sorted out.

The 24 year old striker’s contract ends this season. He is slated to join Real Madrid after this. The disappointed tevez quoted” I want to stay but the club has not made any offer. I’ve been waiting for a year and a half” and also added, “If a club comes to me and offers me a five year deal, I will accept it”.

Poor tevez was agonized by the fact that the man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson mentioned earlier that tevez has rejected a new contract offer at Old Trafford and said, ” I didn’t like him saying I didn’t like the offer. I was made because neither my agent nor me were given one. I don’t know anything about my future. United knows what they must pay for me to stay”. He also appealed to the people that they should be aware that no offer was made by anyone and all the hoax statements were really disturbing him and quoted at last saying ” I want everybody to know no offer had been made. I don’t like that they are playing with our fans, who show their love to me in each match”.

American actor and ‘pulp fiction’ star John Travolta’s 16 year old son ‘Jett Travolta‘ suffered a seizure, and died, the family was staying at their home in Bahamas. Jett was the eldest child of Travolta and Kelly Preston, who has a history of seizures.

Jett was first diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, which causes inflammation of the blood vessels in young children, John and Kelly have precisely said that Jett was ill when he was two years old

Mr Bichrome, a Parliament member and a former Tourism Minister said John “spent a tremendous amount of time with Jett”. “He always brought him along, there was a close affectionate relationship and lots of love”. The family stayed at their Bahamas home in old Bahaman bay resort when this incident happened.

Travolta’s corporate and commercial attorney, Mr. Michael McDermott said the actor had a strong relationship with Jett, and also quoted “Kelly is quiet and both are grieving“. McDermott said his family and other friends were with the couple in the Bahamas. The 2009 has started in a low and in the current economic situation, the aviation Industry has hit an all time low and here is a best example for the crisis. When you exit Arlanda airport on the highway towards Stockholm, you will see a Boeing 767 on your left that looks out of place. The plane is unused and it is kept lonely on a grass covered outside the airport within its perimeter and without any airline tag. The another worse thing is that, the air craft is going to be converted into a hostel.

The Jumbo jet is no longer going to take passengers into the sky; it is going to accommodate passengers in the ground and the jet is going to be named as “Jumbo hostel”. After the plane owner went bankrupt the plane was brought by Swedish entrepreneur looking to expand his hostel business. The crew members are working through the holidays to get 25 rooms ready before 15th January 2009. The rooms are of 64 square feet and are furnished with bed, overhead luggage compartment and Flat screen TV with entertainment and Flight information. Moreover, like all the hostels, it will also have a reception and a cafeteria just inside the front entrance. Hope the financial crisis will end soon. Otherwise these jets will be used for other purpose other than flying.
